We were honored to be invited as art directors for Marita Meyer's latest short film about Aphasia.
Following our previous collaboration on I Am Not Afraid, it was only natural to work together again. This deeply personal documentary explores Aphasia through the eyes of children—Marita’s own kids, whose grandfather suffers from the condition, and others who have experienced similar journeys. Their heartfelt, funny, and honest perspectives bring a fresh and intimate look at how families navigate communication challenges.
The film is currently touring festivals.

The Art Direction process
The art direction for this short film was both exciting and challenging. With four different children narrating, Marita wanted each child's style to reflect how they might draw themselves—immediately capturing their age and personality. The visuals needed to be playful and light while also giving space for the theme of aphasia.
To achieve this, we based our designs on real drawings created by the interviewed children, allowing their unique perspectives to shape the artwork. We also experimented with text and abstract elements to represent aphasia visually. However, balancing creativity with clarity proved tricky, as too many abstract elements made the visuals difficult to read.
In the end, we placed the children in a natural, semi-realistic playground setting—keeping the world familiar and engaging while subtly weaving in the theme of communication challenges.
